All Gave Some, Some Gave All

Let us not forget those who fought and died so that so many could live. Let us not forget those who fought and died so that so many could freely denounce the liberty they exercise with their disdain for this country. Let us not forget those who fought and died so that so many could sit idly by and let our leaders distort and ignore the history of old and all that led us here. Let us not forget all those who fought and later died so that we could live in freedom.

Whether you believe in this country or not, whether you hold these truths to be self evident, you live beneath the virtuous sacrifice of those who gave so we could have. Their gift is felt when you voice your opinion, when you mark your dissent. When you act out for your cause, when you sit quietly with your statement.

Judge not those who felt the sting of death, pushed forth in the name of freedom. Chastised by some, belittled by others, let us not forget why these things are allowed to be part of our culture. Each must allow for differing idea’s, give way to thought’s we may not agree with. We must be as one for countries sake, or suffer the will of the dammed we shall.

We should not look back unless it is to derive useful lessons from past errors, and for the purpose of profiting by dearly bought experience.

  1. Way too many people think they are put here to feel good and be taken care of. Thanks to all the base closings, people think military is something “other” people do “somewhere else”. I still have memories of jets on practice missions banking off Russell Mountain from Loring & Pease. I did a summer camp bus route through Devens. Went with a dear friend who cashed his check at South Weymouth. Throw in Otis, Quincy, Westover, Barnes, Brunswick, & others, you can see how detached the public has gotten from the military belonging near them. That needs to change and soon. Until then, maybe someone can update Charlie Daniels’ song “Still in Saigon”, or at least let be timely a second time around!

  2. Those are words that should sting the hearts of many. I love the fact that this country sets aside a day to remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice. I hate the fact that so many that SHOULD take the day to heart use it as an opportunity to have a facile party. I bow my head to those that paid the price for my freedom wherever I may be.

      1. In actual fact I have been in Russia for their celebration of the end of WW2 which is May 10th. I have ribbons that were given to me that day. I have them displayed proudly. Whatever may have happened since, we would not enjoy the freedom we have without the sacrifice of those Russian boys in their droves. So you are absolutely right – it does not matter the nationality. When we eventually get to tour France together you there are several cemeteries I would like to take you to and I know the French would be so proud if you left American flags behind.

    1. I just watched “Darkest Hour” last night and was very moved. I thank you for your service thought I do not live in your country. All who serve are hero’s in my book.
