Into The Mystic

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun

Ere the bonnie boat was won
As we sailed into the mystic

Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly
Into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows
I will be coming home, mmm mmm
And when the fog horn blows
I want to hear it
I don’t have to fear it

I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float
Into the mystic

When that fog horn blows
You know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows
I gotta hear it
I don’t have to fear it

And I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float
Into the mystic
Come on girl

Into The Mystic – Van Morrison

I can’t go a day without listening to music. Mozart, Johnny Cash, Kid Rock, Luke Bryan or Van Morrison, I like most kinds of music. In many cases it’s the inspiration for what I write, the catalyst that brings forth something from deep inside me, something I may not even realize until that moment. I have written extensively about my past on another blog, but this new beginning is just that. This blog is about my second chance at happiness, a starting over if you will. I have worked very hard to cultivate my goals for a better life, and it is starting to bear fruit.

So what is my focus as of late? My chance at a better life begins with a 30 foot sailboat, my dog and the sea. The boat is almost as old as I am, but with a lot of work she will be a stout vessel to carry me and my canine first mate into many adventures along the coast of Maine and beyond. It will take over a year to restore her and I will post the progress weekly, with a few ramblings in between!

If you search YouTube you will find hundreds of channels about sailboats and the adventures of the owners. Many stories of success and failure, joy and disappointment. But one thing holds true for all of them, inevitably they all ask for money to finance their travel. Whether they call it a “Rum Fund” or through Patreon, it’s all the same. They claim you are paying for content, their efforts in filming and editing video for their viewers, but I say they just want us to finance their vacation. I will have none of that. If I can’t afford it, I don’t need it.

I also believe much is lost when only video is used to showcase the splendor of nature. I don’t want my posts from my travels to be all about me but more about what I have seen and felt, tasted and touched. I want to share exactly what I saw through the lens, bring you with me into a place you may never journey too.

I want to place an image into your mind that will grow over time, a thought of how it feels to live a life free of the daily grind, a slow look at what is all around us. A glimpse of what life can be if you are willing to give up most material possessions in exchange for a lifetime of memories. The only thing you take with you when you leave this world is the photo album in your mind.

I hope you will follow along on my quest for peace and solitude, adventure and sharing. Chime in with questions and comments, insight and knowledge. I look forward to meeting fellow travelers in the coves and harbors, quiet evenings with nothing but the stars. Visits from friends new and old that want to experience life on a boat. I will have room for guests so don’t hesitate to contact me when I am out sailing!

Most of all I hope to find me. The person that has been there all along, masked behind a shroud of false needs and wants. Trapped by the pursuit of things I neither needed nor truly wanted, that were thrust upon me by the notion of what is normal in today’s society. I think the real person in me is sailing along with camera in hand capturing the true beauty of the coast, and writings pulled from the soul within.
